Catesby - Natural History

Born in 1683, Mark Catesby was an English naturalist and one of the first to explore the New World, documenting its plants and animals. He made several ocean voyages to collect specimens, spending a total of eleven years in the colonies.

After returning to England, Catesby taught himself copper etching and presented this collection, Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands (1731-1743), to the Queen of England.
