Audubon was an immensely gifted artist and naturalist, exploring much of America during the nineteenth century. As an illustrator, he completed most of his works from life, carefully collecting specimens and posing them to ensure anatomical accuracy. He even went a step further, and produced these lifelike depictions at full-scale, which called for very large binding. This print comes from his volume, Birds of America, which is still prized today for its scope and beauty.
