But the imperial folio edition was costly and limited to wealthy collectors. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSo in the late 1840s, Audubon and his sons began work on a smaller, octavo edition of the quadrupeds. These scaled down editions were more affordable and were published in between 1849-1870. Many were completed by John W.
